Why Our Teachers Keep Training

At Smartt Steps, we believe that great dancers come from great teachers—and that means our commitment to excellent dance education doesn’t stop at the students. Whether a child walks into our studio fo r a weekly recreational class or trains at the competitive level, we want every dancer to receive high-quality, up-to-date instruction. That starts with a faculty that is always learning, always growing, and always striving to be better.

Dance is an ever-evolving art form. New techniques, stylistic shifts, and teaching methods emerge every year, and it’s important for our staff to stay current. Continuing education gives our teachers the opportunity to expand their knowledge, learn from other professionals, and bring fresh inspiration back to the classroom. It also lets them model something powerful for our dancers: the idea that learning never stops. A stagnant teacher isn’t just less effective—they’re less inspiring. We want our students to see that you can always improve, no matter how experienced you are.

That’s why we’ve made ongoing education a priority as we head into the new season. From attending workshops and conventions to engaging in mentorship and teacher training programs, our team is investing in their own growth—so they can pour that same energy into helping your dancers grow. Below are just a few of the ways our staff has leaned into professional development over the past year. We’re proud of the work they’re doing and even more excited about how it will show up in the studio this season.

Here are some highlights of what our faculty has been up to:
